Before & after; upcycled farm house window

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." ~Henry Van Dyke ...»

Spring is in the air- I can feel it! Even though our green grass and our tulip bulbs are buried under the white snow, we all know- Spring will come, it always does. Spring makes me think of birds, and birds make me think of my Grandma Shirley, she loved birds, and that, makes me want to create something that says 'Spring!' Over the past few days I've been working on a project using an old window out of a 1924 farm house and I am finally done! This window is now for sale & on display at The Living Room Coffee House in Eau Claire, WI .I started with a little old white window from a 1924 Farm house. To some of you, this probably doesn't look like too much, but to me...when I came across this window, it gave me a feeling- I knew it needed a second chance at life-another opportunity to tell it's story and fill someones home with a story.

I cleaned the window-glass & frame, front & back. Then gave it a nice coat of yellow paint. Allowed the paint to dry (completely), and brushed it with some Minwax Poly + Stain in the shade of 'Espresso' and wiped off a majority of the stain, leaving it darker only in places that had dents/dings, and around the edges to give it an aged look.

I once again washed the glass part of the window and applied a wall decal , then drilled holes and placed eye hooks & an old chain from a dairy farm on top of the window, and now it is ready to be hung in a new owners home!

This beautiful one of a kind upcycled window is for sale! It can be viewed and purchased at The Living Room Coffee House on Cameron Street in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

If you are interested in purchasing this window , please purchase at The Living Room, or contact Kelly at thepinkhammerblog @ hotmail.com . I also take custom orders!

Thanks for reading, have a beautiful afternoon,

~Kelly

  • I found quotations about water, or the word "water" in different languages, and I was able to etch them just using contact paper, stencils and the glass etching cream.
  • These were so easy and fun to make! Click here for the full tutorial. http://www.thevspotblog.com/2012/08/upcycle-turn-wine-bottle-into-etched.html
  • Glass etching cream is inexpensive and fun. Putting stickers on the bottles or using stencils will etch anything you want onto the bottle.

Upcycling empty wine bottles into etched water carafes

I tend to have a lot of empty wine bottles and corks hanging around. (Don't judge!) So I try to craft with them whenever possible. These were fun to have out on the tables during a summer ...»

  • Step 1: Adhere the Silkscreen to the glass platter.
  • Step 2: Apply the Glass Paint to the Silkscreen, using a foam pouncer.
  • Step 3: Allow to cure, either in your oven, or you can air dry.
  • So easy! You can get further instructions on my blog post.

  • OH NO! A deadly mishap this morning! Time for a new colored gazing ball.
  • This is a top view of the hole we drilled in the log to run the extension cord. The end of the hole is the same diameter as the outside of the gazing ball stem.
  • Feeding the strand of colored lights into the gazing ball.
  • I taped the end of the strand of lights to the extension cord so it couldn't accidently pull out and fall back down that long 31 inch hole in the log.
  • Placing the gazing ball onto the top of the log.
  • This is how the gazing ball nestles onto the log. It just sits there.
  • All finished. Now my Fairyball is green until I can find the perfect replacement color. 1

Lighted gazing ball mounted in an old log / Instructions included!

This is a standard glass gazing ball that can be purchased at many home centers that we mounted on an old log and installed colored lights inside the glass ball. We drilled a hole up ...»
through the center of the log and fished an extension cord from the bottom to the top and into the glass ball after inserting colored LED lights. Then we mounted the log on a concrete base and secured it in place. I broke my original beloved gazing ball this morning trying to get pics so that is the reason for the change on the color of the glass ball.
