Gardening: Stupid but pretty pink flowers

I am going for this asian inspired front yard but the birds are leaving these seeds for these pretty pink flowers that I would love to have elsewhere but can't weed out for my life in the ...»
front yard. It's like a vinca. It's really invasive and by the end of the summer, you can't see anything else. Any ideas on how to move it or get rid of it?

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Flies

How do I get rid of those stupid half dozen flies that continually circle on the front porch. They are too low for a hanging fly trap to do any good. Help - I know they will be out there all summer. Thanks in advance.

I would first recommend investigating what they are attracted to.

  • They are about 2 inches long, black with yellow spots, lots of legs and if you pester them the curl up.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Bug I.D.?

When I was a kid I used to see these every fall as school was starting the kind of swarmed. Thousands of them died in the gutters when the rains started (and smelled bad). I can't remember their name, nor the folk lore that went with their appearance. Right now there are a fairly large number of them wandering around our property. Anyone know what they are and/or anything else about them?

Repurposing & Upcycling: Vintage screen part two.

I took a good look with my glasses and it seems that the designs on the screen were once a green color and have quite a bit of rust. I'm wondering if I should do some restoration along ...»
with a good clean using the proper product. I think using a rub on color in a dark green might work??? I need to stop the rust. I guess a sane person would call me wish washy but I need your input to make a decision

copper, with aged patina! You could use a VERY fine steel wool piece to gently remove the rust 'flakes', and then preserve it by.....Yep, Briwax. Sorry, everyone must by tired of hearing me refer to Briwax, but it's been my 'go to' for way over a decade. Nope, I do not get any 'perks' from them. Just my humble opinion!

The Summer Table: Game Boards as Placemats!

I love finding new ways to use old stuff - even in my table settings! This idea is a 'Fast, Cheap & Easy' TM way to add some FUN to your summer tablescapes... ...»

Use flat game boards as placemats!

This idea was inspired by a display I created in a my booth at a vintage show, and then replicated in a vintage store booth. This one wasn't even planned ahead of time ... when I sat items aside while I was working on the booth setup, I looked down and saw the Scrabble board under the plates and went 'DUH!' :)

It's pretty easy to find Scrabble boards (perfect for summer, because they are red, white, blue, and tan colors)and other old game boards at thrift stores - usually, the pieces are missing from games but the boards are still in the box. If you DO find one with pieces, you can spell out your guests' names! You can also use my Giant Letter Tile tutorial on the HOMEWARDfound blog to make 'Scrabble' tile coasters!

The Death of an Ugly Bathroom Vanity

We took this dated late 90's bathroom vanity and gave it a timeless makeover. Do you like the direction we took with this design? Anyone like the before better?

Gardening

I just found a rusty porcelain tub at a sale for $2.00 so of course, I had to plant it. I used some of my dishes from my stash and planted them with Allysum, Moss Rose, Verbena and ...»
Violets. I put gravel in the bottom of the teapot and teacup for drainage. I also drilled holes in the bottom of the tub.Still debating if I should spray paint the tub with a pastel color.

A Stroll Through the Rose Bowl Flea Market

Lately I've been seeing a lot of posts about the Lucketts Vintage Market. Sadly, I was unable to attend. Those posts have made me nostalgic for my trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market last fall. Take a trip down memory lane with me, won't you?
