About Me:

I have two grown children and two young grandchildren. I have an associates degree in Horticulture from Alamance Community College. However most of my experience is in my own yard.

Favorite area of home improvement:

My passions are gardening, vegetable (grow your on food!) and ornamental. Now that I've completed my studies, I have several projects that I am working on. I'm a outside kind of girl!

Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I love this recipe for Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner. With only three ingredients it is easy to use and costs only pennies per serving. I used it and my toilets were shining.

Removing toxins from my home without using chemicals is important, so this non toxic homemade toilet bowl cleaner is a winner. For those of you who don't like the smell of vinegar the Melaleuca essential oil will not only mask the smell but will also serve as a ...»

sanitizer.

I highly recommend this do it yourself recipe for Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner. I just added the baking soda, Melaleuca or Tee-Tree Essential Oil and then the vinegar and let it soak for about 10 minutes. I followed up by scrubbing it with my toilet bowl brush.

1/2 - 3/4 cup baking soda

8 - 10 drops tea-tree or melaleuca essential oil

1/2 - 3/4 cup distilled white vinegar

Pour Baking Soda directly into the toilet boil add oil, then vinegar - in this order.

Add Essential Oil

Let sit for 10 minutes then scrub boil with brush.

Making a succulent garden in an old birdbath

Upcycled an old, leaky birdbath into a beautiful succulent garden! I mixed about 2 parts compost to 1 part builder's sand and mounded it up in the birdbath basin using small rocks, then added the succulents.http://ourfairfieldhomeandgarden.com

My hibiscus presented me an early spring bloom as soon as I placed it back outside after spending the winter in the garage.

Rooftop Gardens

I am fascinated by rooftop gardening. I took these pictures in a while back and have been meaning to post them here for a while. These were taken on a rooftop in Soho.

Gardening: what are these flowers?

These were taken @ Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, AR. The white flowers smelled wonderfully sweet. I would love to know what they are & get some of them.

the original house- with beadboard, hardwood floors & corner windows- which each of the 4 original bedrooms had . We did nearly all the work ourselves and I absolutely love how it turned out. It is one of my favorite rooms because it has so much sunshine streaming in and I love the french doors leading out to the backyard.
