About Me:

Over 30 years experience in Home Accessorizing, Interior Design, Home Staging and floral design as well as using my own home as my "canvas" for trying out new ideas, decorative paint techniques and all things in a creative vein.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I see things for what they can be - not what they are at the moment. With that said I love dabbling inside & out with new ideas to make my home unique and a reflection of my personality.

my dish flowers...

Well I FINALLY got them made. I am not very happy with them, I think they look stupid with pvc stems I didn't paint. (I should) But the hostas are coming up and will surround them so ...»
maybe they will look better soon. I think I also am going to move them back further, to the neighbors ' ugly house' to detract maybe from their peeling paint etc. Any suggestions as to how I could have done them better? Different plates, rebar? (Which cost more than the plates did!) This is my first attempt after seeing the great ones on Ht, and I was very leery. But FINALLYYYY! tada! NEW PICTURES.....hostas growing in, I am happier, doesn't look so barren now! Next ones will be green pvc or whatever! @KELLY, GAIL

just like YOU!! Way to go Sherrie and Kelly S! I agree that NOT saying anything to those who think it's their "right" to thoughtlessly and needlessly bash and insult others efforts, is then condoning that conduct!! Sherrie, what you said was in no way being confrontational - I thought you were quite eloquent and spot on!!

Keep a Toilet Clean (much longer)

Have a toilet that seems to get dirty very fast despite thorough cleaning? Try cleaning the siphon jets. ...»

1.) Clean the underside of the rim with a nylon brush and homemade cleaning solution of vinegar, baking soda, and water.

2.) Shut off the water supply and flush the toilet to empty the tank.

3.) Block off the siphon jets with duct tape.

4.) Pour 1 gallon of vinegar in the tank and flush the toilet. Let it sit over night.

5.) In the morning remove the tape and open the water supply. Flush water through once to clear out any remaining vinegar.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Chandelier SCORE!

We have been searching for a large show-stopping chandelier for our stairway for 2 years now. As many of you know, I buy things only if they are a bargain, and basically refuse to pay any more than 25% of retail. Our entire house remodel has been done this way, and we have saved thousands over the past 5 years. My latest find is this 30" globe flower chandelier. We found it at Habitat for $500 a couple of weeks ago (it retails for $1500-$2000), but still didn't think that was ...»
discounted enough, even though it was a new lighting store display donation. On a chance "drop in" to the store on Monday, I walked in to find that they had all of their lighting on sale for 50% off, and made a beeline to the lighting section. SCORE! $250 for this beauty!! I couldn't fit it in my car, so it's awaiting pickup on Friday, and can't wait to get it installed. If you have a Habitat for Humanity ReStore in your area, and haven't checked it out, I advise you do so. It's definitely a "hit or miss" visit, but we drop in at least once a week and have found some amazing bargains. It's also a great place to rid yourself of excess building materials, old fixtures/cabinets, etc., as you remove them. Recycle, get a tax deduction, and help a great cause at the same time!

Herringbone Paint Stick Tabletop

I adore this herringbone pattern table from Karianne at Thistlewood Farms. She used paint sticks on top of a table and then stained it. Gorgeous and cheap!
