ANTS? Easy, Safe Solution!

An exterminator told my friend that when you begin to see ants, they are the scouts. Stop these and you won't have ants. My son discovered that if you spray them with Windex (or any other glass cleaner), they are exterminated. Keep after it for a while and you won't have ants. We have used this for years. 2 days ago our humming bird feeder leaked onto the concrete front porch...the liquid got down in the crack between brick and concrete so there was not way to flush it out. Ants ...»
appeared quickly, I sprayed them with Windex. Watched through the day and kept spraying them. Now ant free! Safe for kids, pets and environment! It is worth a try before you spend hundreds.

  • Look for bone china tea cups at your local thrift shops. Many times they are thrown away if a saucer is missing. 2
  • Use just a tiny bit of soil in bottom of cup.
  • Add your Viola plant.
  • Firm the soil with your fingers.
  • I love the finished tea cup! 4

Great idea for Mothers day gift! Kids love making these.

Did you know that often a thrift shop throws away old tea cups if they are missing a saucer? This is how we recycle them .

  • Absorbs icky odors and smells good!
  • Just baking soda, essential oil, a mason jar and cheesecloth.
  • Fill jar with about an inch of baking soda.
  • Add 8-10 drops of scented oil.
  • Cut cheesecloth to fit. Screw on letting the cheescloth rotate loosely.
  • Place in the room you want and enjoy the lovely smell. Works well with floral, citrus scents, anything you like.

DIY Air Freshener

My kids tease me about my sense of smell. They say I am hypersensitive in this area. I will tell them to take out the trash because it reeks and they tell me they don't smell anything! ...»
Ditto for cleaning the bathroom, kitchen, rinsing out dishrags. As I type this I am stringing things together and getting the feeling they have a selective sense of smell to go with selective hearing. Teenagers! Have you ever had a phantom smell in your house? Come on, admit it, I won't tell. You know what I mean. It is when you can smell something is funky somewhere in the house, but you can't find it. That is when you need me for a friend. I can find it.

DIY - Citrus Infused Vinegar Cleaning Solution

Vinegar is an incredibly powerful liquid. There are almost endless health benefits by using it both inside and outside your body (recipe here, here and here. ) You probably also know it can be used as a replacement for most cleaning solutions and detergents, and because it is so good for your health, it has almost no dangerous side effects. If anything, using vinegar as your ...»
goto cleaner can only improve the health of you and your family.

Adding citrus to a vinegar cleaner not only adds a pleasant smell, but it increases the cleaning power. Like many toxic cleaners, citrus helps it cut through grease, destroy molds and bacterias that may be hiding in your house and more. There are recipes out there for mixing vinegar with essential oils to get the same thing, but there's something nice about making it yourself that we just love at our house.

Here is the recipe:1. Fill a one quart mason jar with citrus peels.

2. Cover peels with white vinegar, place lid on jar, shake and allow to sit for 2-3 weeks.

3. Strain the citrus peels out of the vinegar.

4. Mix the vinegar solution and water in a spray bottle. (You can mix it in a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 solution depending on how strong you want your solution)

5. If you want more recipes and how-tos for making your own cleaners, check out this great post! http://www.theyummylife.com/Natural_Citrus_V...

began. I wanted something simple but yet made a statement. I named this one 'Gypsy' for her simplicity from the crisp white cotton fabric and carefree dandelions ready to take over your living room.

A Restored deck with Restore Deck Armour

Finally finished the first coat of Restore Deck Armour on our deck that was built in 1983. Over the years it has had a few cleanings and some stain, but has mostly been neglected. I did ...»
not pressure wash, but used Olympic deck cleaner and a good scrub brush. I also replaced 12 ea. Kiln Dried PT 2 X 6 boards.....(which I bought at Lummus Supply at the same price, without the special order freight charges from the 2 big boxes in town).

All in all I'm happy with the results of the first coat, and will add the 2nd coat in about 2 months (at 800 SF, I need a break). More important, my wife was happy with the results.

Here are a few before and after photos', and a few comments based on my experience:

It may have been the age and condition of the deck, but I had to add 20% to their stated coverage rate of 2 gallons per 100 SF.

The honeycomb roller does leave a nice texture finish....but it's not as easy as their video show....and a fully loaded roller does cover only the 5 -7 SF as stated. So have patients and allow plenty of time......it's not like rolling out paint or stain.

The matching Solid Stain offers great coverage, but it is expensive.

And most of all, what they don't tell you is that this finish absorbs heat and it is hot as hell in direct sun light on bare feet....as my wife discovered.

So if you try it, have fun....I'm sure you will like the results
