About Me:

I'm an Atlanta girl, born and raised in Buckhead and I've had the privilege of being an interior designer for the past 28 years. My work includes residential, commercial, and medical environments as wells as yacht and boat design, and has been published in local and national magazines. I host a weekly interior design show on Radio Sandy Springs called "Design Tips with Lee Anne" and co-hosted for "Meet the Best of TV" design shows on WPXA. I have enjoyed instructing Interior Design classes at Emory University for the "Evening at Emory Continuing Education" program for the past six years. • Finished Mason jar solar light.
  • Supplies Needed: Solar lights, duct tape, Mason jars and outer lid, spray paint and painters tape. 3
  • Screw off the top of the solar light and put painters tape on the top of the solar panel.
  • Spray paint the solar light tops and lids.
  • I folded the duct tape in half to create double sided tape. I used duct to keep the light from falling into the jar. Duct tape is also weather proof.
  • I wrapped the duct tape around the light. Make sure you don't put the tape to close to the top. You don't want the tape to stick out of the lid. 4
  • I stuck the light with the duct tape inside the jar. You don't need to push the light in too far, just enough to make it snug. The lid will make it more secure.
  • It was an easy project that didn't cost very much money. I had all of the resources with the exception of the lights. 1

Mason Jar Solar Lights!

Don't you just love all of the things you can make and do with Mason jars? I have been wanting Mason jar solar lights since I saw them in a catalog three years ago, but for $40 a jar ...»
there was no way I would allow myself to buy them. I knew I needed to figure out a way to make them myself. I bought some solar lights at the dollar store and was able to come up with my own Mason jar solar lights. Please visit my blog to see all of the details.

  • We sanded and painted the existing cabinets, I love how fresh and bright they are now. The light reflecting backsplash tile adds sparkle and glam!
  • This beautiful Kohler sink is much more functional than what they had. The taps were repurposed from the old kitchen as they were in great shape. Counters were done with 12x24 floor tiles... a great option that is very cost effective.
  • The appliance garage door looked dated so we removed it and painted everything out... so much better!
  • The kitchen before, dark and not enough contrast with the wood floors. The laminate counters were also dark and dreary...
  • Although the cabinets were good quality, they had pitting that my parents didn't like. We planed them down for a fresh clean starting point.
  • I think they like it!

  • Use a hair dryer and straight razor to remove old silicone caulk
  • A straight razor works nicely because it cuts through the caulk.
  • Use the lowest setting on the hair dryer that softens the silicone caulk.
  • Always ask your wife or girlfriend for permission before using their hair dryer for DIY projects!!!
  • The Homax caulk removal tool is another option for, you guessed, removing caulk :)

Easily Remove Silicone Caulk without Chemicals

Cracked or separated silicone caulk is an eyesore.

In addition, it can lead to water ruining walls, ceilings, and more! ...»

This past weekend I removed the silicone between our kitchen counters and tile backsplash.

The surprising twist is that I used my wife's hair dryer to make this project move faster than Danica Patrick!!

Yes, I asked for my wife's permission (I've learned my lesson).

If you want to easily remove old silicone caulk without a chemical caulk remover use a hair dryer and straight razor blade.

Any residue that remains can either be scraped off further with the razor and then cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

If you have an acrylic tub or plastic surround in your bathroom just be careful with high heat. I tested the output of the hair dryer with a thermometer and it showed the temperature only got up to 200F, just enough to soften the silicone caulk and not damage the countertops.

For additional tips and a very short movie (not long enough to eat a sleeve of Girl Scout thin mints) visit my blog post at http://www.homerepairtutor.com/easily-remove...

it in the shower. That way everything is ready to go. When you get in, wet the sponge, and scrub away. Next, well, take a shower. That's it. I do a little section of the shower each day and work my way around the whole area about twice a week.

If the mixture gets thick, just add a little water. Also, I would caution that it is important to rinse well, and keep out of eyes as you would any cleanser.
