About Me:

I Love to repurpose! I love picking up stuff off the curb and giving it new life...if I don't have a project already, then I'll scout the goodwill store to find one...I like all areas of home improvement and can handle the powertools to do almost anything...except I don't have a table saw so that long precision cuts are sometimes difficult...and I've never had the opportunity to use a router so even though we own one...I don't know how to use it...LOL Still I've done some big projects and some small ones, usually I find that if I were going to do the project a second time, I'd make some changes...LOL

Favorite area of home improvement:

I've had some really great success, found an old Lane cedar chest Gouged up and scarred, both back legs broken off in a jagged mess. Sanded stained, varnished and of course carefully rebuilt the legs matching the original pattern and reinforced with metal all thread up into the remainder of the original leg. Checked with Lane and the SN identified it as a 1942 model so I was thrilled. Now I'm working on a Tiger Striped Maple chest I found on the side of the road...again, the back leg is broken and the drawer slides need repair...but Everydrawer has a lock and I beleive it is from the federal period based on the hardware although I am far from an expert in identification! I just like to give them new life...

the Amway product, REDU, I've seen it get rust stains out of clothing without harming the color...and it's specifically made for rust. comes as a powder you take the amount you need and add the appropriate amount of water...like 1 tsp to a cup of water.... the instructions are on the bottle....

my dish flowers...

Well I FINALLY got them made. I am not very happy with them, I think they look stupid with pvc stems I didn't paint. (I should) But the hostas are coming up and will surround them so ...»
maybe they will look better soon. I think I also am going to move them back further, to the neighbors ' ugly house' to detract maybe from their peeling paint etc. Any suggestions as to how I could have done them better? Different plates, rebar? (Which cost more than the plates did!) This is my first attempt after seeing the great ones on Ht, and I was very leery. But FINALLYYYY! tada! NEW PICTURES.....hostas growing in, I am happier, doesn't look so barren now! Next ones will be green pvc or whatever! @KELLY, GAIL

up, as Sheila has said they won't even be visible most likely! I love that you did them in all different colors...and the "silver platters" are really going to add some "bling" to the garden. Be sure and post photos once the plants come up and surround them!

Repurposing & Upcycling: Re-purposing a baby highchair

I have an wooden baby highchair that I used for both my daughters now 23 and 16...I just can't seem to part with the chair. It was initially white and I painted it for my second daughter. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can repurpose this special chair?

Homemade Guitar Bags

When our son went to college, my husband RE-claimed the work shed as, ummm well a WORK shed. That meant the valuable music gear our teen had mowed yards, and worked to purchase, was in ...»
danger of being ruined by hubby's activities. One day I walked out to see grinding dust covering one of the guitars and decided they needed protection.. so I bought some Vinyl tablecloth fabric that was lined with felt and made "custom" guitar bags.

  • Well, it didnt go Audrey Hepburn, but alittle Marilyn Monroe action sure did happen during the random fun photo shoot! I thought - oh what more fun way to show off DIY GRRRRRL power than to be in a party dress high heels and sparks!

  • Adding a kickstand to the back of the tub, just to make sure it doesnt tip from being weighted on one end. Thanks to Mark from Iron Craft for making me some custom iron curvy little kickstands! http://www.gypsybarn.com 1
  • Cutting cast iron coated in fired on porcelain is not a clean easy job.. it cracks and chips the finish and the only way I could come up with filling that in since smoothing it out didn't work was to use bondo for cars. And it worked
  • Full coats of paint. Now to move on to the cushion and fabric. My least fav part. Fabric and I never see eye to eye! http://www.gypsybarn.com
  • Now I took this shot before I painted it to show the colour variations and option for futre pieces, but this colour combo didn't fit well with the grand makeover of the bedroom I am working on. http://www.gypsybarn.com 1

Clawfoot tub to Chaise Lounge

Of course I have seen Breakfast at Tiffanys and my hat goes off to the original tub couch creator! However, I of COURSE have to add my spin!I though long and hard about simply taking the ...»
front out to make it a love seat, but .. then .. when do I do things the simple way? It needed that added flare and I am re finishing a clients bedroom to feel french, so it was a MUST to have curves. Voila the new Chaise for her master bedroom bay window!

First and Foremost - do NOT TRY CUTTING OR WORKING WITH THIS unless you have proper protective equipment on! Glasses AND masks are a MUST!!!!!! Not only do you have to deal with potential lead in the paint, but also glass infused, fired on porcelain and chips flying everywhere! Very messy job! - Now - on to the fun part!

I have been waiting three years to find the perfect tub! I found this one at our local Habitat for Humanity Re-store.

I plotted my design early to match with a theme I was doing in a clients Master Bedroom. She had asked to find a sitting bench or something for her Bay Window * DING DING DING* I finally have a reason to make the Chaise I wanted to do.

I worked on cutting the tub forever with a grinder as I was told plasma cutting was to hard on Cast .... it was pretty easy, however very time consuming, so I sourced it out after I got the initial trial over with. If I had more time to poke away at it I would have, but too many things were piling up! Then the work involved came. It took forever to figure out how to smoothe the chips from the cutting, but upon talking to some local car boys and metal workers, the idea of bondo came up! Might as well give it a go! And it worked! paint paint paint and add fabric and ta daaaaaaaaaaa! BUENO! There is a full album being uploaded right now to my Facebook page at http://www.gypsybarn.com. Come join the fun!

Recycled Fabric Stool Knockoff

I know you all have seen these really cool stools around Pier 1 and Target for around $70! Well a few months ago I found this old stool for a whopping $1.99 and had to have it. Then it ...»
just sat around my house looking sad waiting it's turn in the Chalk Paint line. Then came the light bulb moment! Instead of buying one of those old loom crafts and getting my kids to work making pot holders, I spotted this kitchen rug with really bright awesome colors in it and I knew just what to do with it! I made my own fabulous version of this trend~

Concrete Garden Path

We made this garden walkway with a mold that we purchased at Lowe's. We mixed the Quickcrete up and then poured it into the mold a section at a time. It was almost like making mud pies. It was a bit time consuming but we were very happy with the end result. It has held up very well as it has been down now for about 3 years.
