Hi All! I'm beyond thrilled to be participating in a new challenge with a whole bunch of other seriously talented bloggers. For my first entry - I knew I wanted something a bit rustic and something Inspired by Fall... I bought this console table at a garage sale in August - it was $5. Perfect candidate for a makeover, right?
I thought I had it all figured out. I also (naively) assumed the top was solid wood like the legs. Ummm.. no. As soon as I put any pressure on it with my sander - this happened. Yikes.
That's pressboard. And that's every DIYers nightmare. I couldn't figure how I was going to cover that up and still achieve the look I wanted. So I did the next best thing. I just removed the whole fake wood top and rummaged around in my shed for some extra solid wood boards. Thank goodness for hoarding... seriously :P
The funny part is, I ended up using the side piece of another garage sale find! So to say this console table is a rescue is 100% true! Every bit of it is recycled :) But let's talk about the colour of that wood. I don't know why it's that weird yellow. But it was. So I had to do some rehab on it to get it to where I wanted it.
Some stain and black paint layered over and over again with a dry brush technique and a rag and it was starting to look weathered and rustic. Wonderful :)

Oh! And the best part? Some Avocado Shake paint to give it that harvest themed pop! I'm in love with my $5 table. In Love. :) What do you think? How would you have handled that silly press board top? (PS. Lots more pictures and tutorial details over on my blog).
