I love the look of old ruffled page display books in catalogs like Restoration Hardware that are often precious French antique finds.
This is a quick and easy DIY that you don't even have to leave the house for and can do today!

Books add so much to vignettes, especially when they have some age to them.
Gather up some old non~literary masterpiece books that you have lying around. It's a great way to recycle! Pull off the covers and try and find a variety of book sizes if you plan on grouping together.
Brew a pot of strong coffee and give the books a soak. I prefer using coffee to tea to age books as well as fabric.
You'll find more tips on the soaking process and how to get the pages to look ruffled on my blog link at shabbyfufublog.com

Ross Rasmussen on Oct 26, 2015I cut the covers and back off hardcover books and save them. Then I soak the pages in really dark coffee. Afterwards I put them in front of a small fan which dries them, helps the edges wrinkle and turns the pages as they dry (we have to be careful of mold here in the tropics). When they are dry I find that I can spray them with water and dab some of the color off which makes a nice mottled effect. Finally, I reunite them with the covers which I have distressed. They are great for elevating objects in a vignette.
