I bought this from a thrift store about a year ago. I thought it was interesting. Any suggestions for it?

Besides leaving it the way it is, paint it a color of your choice and use it as a plant stand. Low growing on the bottom and tall or draping ones on top. Would save room that way too. I don't like complicated redo's, so this might be too simple!

Looks like an orderb? Tray.maybe put an eyeball in the eyelet drape the platters n some ghoulish eye candy and serve some trick or treaters? Sorry might ought to think about Xmas

@Todd Thanks Todd, the eye ball idea made me laugh.

Paint each check alternately black and white. All the rest, paint red. Or, I'd not red, black. I think it's good to use the checkerboard to give it some character. Don't forget to seal the checker biard at the very lease.

@Sandra thanks I never thought about bringing out the squares!

Let it in this colour and put in seasons fruits or green apples.look beautiful as a center of your countrr

One option: definitely paint it, because the surface looks outdated. You could use it as a centerpiece by filling each layer with appropriate greenery and decorations for each season. For instance, you could build a little Christmas village with fake snow, little buildings and pine trees! Or cover each tier with moss and create a fairy garden with little houses and elves. Three: use broken pieces of glass or ceramic tile and grout to make a mosaic design, then use it as a serving tray or to display small items or plants.

Great for Christmas decorating coming up! Add some greenery either from evergreens in your yard or from craft store. Add led battery candles, a few pine cones and voila!
    • Susan Susan on Nov 29, 2015
@Karen Rydzewski I love the idea of adding greens, pine cones and lights.

I would paint an accent color to coordinate with your decor, and make the circle at the top a highlight, then use it for different purposes seasonally as others suggest. If you celebrate Christmas, it's got a great tree shape in the making, place potted plants to fill in and cascade off of it add ornamental birds, ribbon lights etc. If you plan to entertain place it on a buffet table and fill it with whatever you are serving desserts, fruits, cheeses, breads it wil make a stunning food display, you put wine or cordials and stemware on it for drink service. You could mix in candles, pine cones...so many possibilities!

I see a bird feeder. Whack off the legs, drill a few small holes for drainage, add dried mealworms to the top and a great seed mix on bottom and hang where you can see it from your favorite seat in the living room. Winter is coming and it'll be a busy feeder. Of note, you may want to spray it with a clear coat of some sort to help protect it from the elements.

I would paint it a terra-cotta green color and then use it for all kind of decorations. For the Season get some poinsettias, then greenery to drape over the sides, put a red ribbon at the top would be beautiful..maybe even some twinkle lights through out or cupcakes, fruits/vegetables, a rock display. Or for say Mother's day do a floral display...so many options great buy. Good Luck!

Not for sure how big it is but you could take the legs off, paint it to match your decor and use on your dresser as a bracelet and ring tray. I made one out of plates and bowls bought from Kohl's and spray painted some glass ice cream bowls. Works great for my jewelry!

@C Crow Thank you very much! It was cheap also! Bought the plates and bowl from Kohl's on clearance (they are acrylic/plastic) and had 30% off so all 3 only cost me about $4.00 total. Got the 5 sundae dishes at a thrift store for $1.50 for all. They were an ugly brown color so I spray painted (already had the gray from doing a vase for my room) them gray since my room is yellow, gray & white. Attached the glass to the bowl and plates by silicone and it was finished! Also, it will be easily changed when I get tired of the current colors of our room! LOL!

Love it for jewelry because I own way too much costume jewelry. Use it for entertaining on a buffet table - cookies, cupcakes etc. I'd spray it different colors - use it for any collection you may have, postcards ,pictures or just decorate for holidays. Enjoy.
    • Susan Susan on Nov 29, 2015
@Joanne Freeley I too am guilty of too much jewelry :0) but its a little big for that. I should of added the dimensions to my post.

    • Susan Susan on Nov 29, 2015
@Sheryl its too big for a counter but I do love the idea to decorate it for the holidays.
  • Kim Kim on Nov 29, 2015
I agree with Cheryl to leave as is, it's a beautiful piece.

I saw a fabulous dessert tray made with something similar. all beautiful cups were on on the bottom and pasteries were on the top.

If you don't like the look, use a water soluble paint and use it as a crayon/marker caddy for your kids/grandkids. Or, get some large paper doilies, Madge pudge them to the plates and use it as a coffee table or side table!
  • Lea Grossman Lea Grossman on Nov 30, 2015
Use it as a desert tray!

Philistines one and all !!!! it is a sandwich / cake stand, why change it's use? a lovely item, which could be updated to make it look more appealing, but fill it with cucumber sandwiches, cream and cupcakes, and everyone will love it again!!! :)

It is a great space saver for serving, but would up grade the appearance by painting or mod podge some pretty napkins on it.

Use as is or paint it place spices on the bottom and all the little tools that get lost in the drawers in the top tray.
  • UpState UpState on Nov 30, 2015
Spray paint it industrial grey (Hammered-style), and make alot of sandwiches, and you could go to local work sites and sell them to the workers, the convenient handle will make it easy for you to carry the delicious sandwiches to all the workers from one side of the project to the other. Excellent money-maker every day !

It could be used to place your costume jewelry. When tucked away in a drawer it is easy to forget what we have. This actually would look better painted. I would spray paint in a color to match the colors used in the room in which it will be placed. .

I love this. I have a wrought iron one, three tier, that I have in my bathroom on the counter in a corner. First, it adds some height and fills in the space, but secondally, I can put my cosmetics on it, etc. If it is real wood, I am not sure if it would be good in a bathroom with the moisture though. Does the wood look reflect your decor? If it doesn't, I would paint it to coordinate with the room. It has very modern lines and I can see it being painted a shiny black.
  • Riki Nutting Riki Nutting on Feb 02, 2016
I would spray it to go with my decor and use a corresponding color fabric floral print to decoupage the tiers. Maybe even use a gold paint or gold leaf on the edges. I may try to remove the big circle on top.

I love this stand. You could use it as a book stand and place the books in vertical style. big ones at the bottom and small one in the upper level.
