I have some Passion Flower seeds. Can they be planted out now?

Douglas Hunt on Feb 05, 2012Passiflora seeds can be tricky to germinate, Jeanette, but one thing that is crucial is warm temperatures, so you should definitely not start them outside now, and if you start them indoors, I would consider using a heat mat. I have read suggestions that you should lightly sandpaper the seeds on both sides, or soak them in orange juice for 24 hours before planting. Sometimes seeds will germinate fairly quickly using this method, but other times they will definitely try your patience. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Erica Glasener on Feb 06, 2012Jeanette, I'm not sure which passion flower seeds you have but if you collected them here in Georgia chances are they are the native wild maypop which should be easy to germinate from seed. Here is a link with lots of good information, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page where it talks about propagation. http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=PAIN6Helpful Reply
