We have completed several projects in Panama over the course of 12 years working with clients there.

The aestetic is quite different than my clients in the States. This is a project we designed from the ground up with a local architect. We provided the primary design and he provided the structural and architectural plans. This was for a weekend retreat at the beach. There are not any finished photos as the client did not want it photographed after it was completed. It is a 27,000 square foot house with 12 bedrooms and 4 maids rooms.

There is a huge disparity of income there.

It has become the new Costa Rica for expats from here because of it's comparable affordability.

I'm guessing it's the Caribe side..

No, most of the development is on the Pacific side, the weather is more stable and the beach areas are a close drive from Panama City which is on the Pacific side of the canal. The Caribe side is much wilder, wetter and more mosquitos. The Kuna Indians also control the San Blas islands on that side. There are a few fishing villages and the city of Colon but overall the Pacific side is the developed side of Panama.

When global warming melts the ice caps this home will be about 30 feet under water...I guess the rich don't understand that part yet.

The inside is very beautiful, the outside looks too much like a hotel. But I love the interior.

Another wonderful, well done project Pedini! There will always be those who have and do not have, congrats for those who do and enjoy it, use it wisely and assist others with it! I also work for very wealthy individuals and Fortunate 500 and 100 companies who have supported me, my staff and many philanthropic endeavors I've been involved with over the last 20years. It's given me opportunities to also travel the world on their dime, something most people can only dream of. I salute you ...»
Pedini, your artistry, talent and the opportunity to give others jobs and bring beauty to a world that is so desperately in need of it!

On one hand it is an amazing piece of property. But on the other side of this coin is the fact that in our times of concern for our global footprint and the wastefulness of space it can be said that this property fits that category.

Pedini, your wrought iron and bronze choices for this client are great. The home looks fantastic. Congrats on a job well done.

It's lovely but not cozy like I'd want my home to be. I can almost see Scarlet Ohara coming down those stairs. Quick - give her some drapes!

I totally agree with Pedini. If you read under the pictures posted it does say that there are 4 maids qts. So even if the people who had this home built flaunt their money they do employ people. Panama is a poor country and those 4 maids get to live in that house. Plus everyone else that gets a pay check from the people who own the home. We can't look down our righteous noses at those that have. I lived in Panama for 3 yrs while my husband was active duty. Half of that time we lived off ...»
base. I got to know many of the Panamanian families, my daughter was born there and I love the country. I was amazed at how many of the military families NEVER left the base and was afraid to venture out and see the country. If I had a way of supporting myself I'd go back to STAY. Even though that home is not my style, the builder did a wonderful job. Its quite a master piece.

The government also has protections in place for the domestic help, they have a mandatory one month paid vacation (many of us have not had a months vacation ever). There are a lot of people in most of these countries that depend on these jobs for their living and means to support their families.

Panama overall has a good standard of living compared to most countries in Central America and their economy is pretty strong. It is a country with a lot to offer and they are just discovering ...»

the economics of tourism. They have many unspoiled rain forests and beaches and there are many great people that live there.

The architecture is wonderful. The home is like a work of art, just beautiful. I am awed by a beautiful home just as much as the next person, but a 27,000 sq. ft. weekend retreat home? Please. Like Forrest Gump said.... "Mama said there's only so much fortune a man really needs, and the rest is just for showing off."

The space has a purpose, it is for a large extended family of 3 generations plus their friends to enjoy. These are clients that have worked very hard for their wealth, they came to Panama with nothing after being exiled from Syria and have built their businesses from the ground up.

Then they know first hand the value of money... and excess. I'm just saying....the house is lovely and your work is wonderful. As a primary residence, one would be proud to call it "home"...as a 27000 sq. ft. weekend beach home, it is just a showplace. But...it's your work that is the dicussion, and you did a wonderful job :-)

These families do a great deal for the community. This how will employ at least two entire families and provide them a home. There is a home for the caretaker on the property for him and his wife and children. They are providing jobs for the construction workers who build the house as well as the people who clean it, maintain the yards etc. The family also does a great deal for the community with the businesses they own, they have charitable foundations that have built schools in poor neighborhoods and medical clinics in others.

that's great I'm glad to hear that these people do a lot for the community. If I were a betting person, the caretakers home is probably bigger than mine...and what does "this HOW" mean??

Read what you wrote to me on my 1st response. You must be upset with what I said about building a shelter for the homeless, and shot back a response in a moment of anger :)

Better to teach a person to fish. This home, like you said, will provide jobs for the locals and a safe living space. No one should feel guilty for working hard and enjoying the fruits of their labor. Also great to hear how generous they are.
