Sliding Barn Door From A Forsaken Farm Stead

On the historic estate where we live, there are plenty of cool old barn doors - including some sliding ones. So when my mom called from an old abandoned acreage that my uncles farm around and asked if I wanted an awesome barn door, I told her I really didn't need her to haul one from Iowa all the way to Michigan for me. But THEN she texted me this picture and I gasped! I sure didn't have any hardware that looked like that on my doors!
It was a very wide door and we only needed half it's size for the space, so Dad cut it down to the size I wanted. We took it outside to remove all the dirt and then, just in case there were any little buggers living in the wood, I gave it a major coating of bug killer spray. I know, not the best "green" option, but better than risking anything!

p.s. Can you tell my mom is proud of her "find"? Gotta love a mother who knows exactly what I love and is willing to go to great lengths to get it. :)

This barn door is going to have it's new home where you see the insulation on the left. There was a lot of work that went in to this room just to get it livable - including moving that sewage pipe!
You can read about cutting the doorway out here and get a peek into my family room at the same time: http://www.kammyskorner.com/2016/01/a-daring-doorway-cut-in-wall-opening-up.html
And it's up and functional! We rarely close it, and have it hooked to remain open so the kids aren't tempted to get crazy sliding it open and shut!
I did not do a think to the wood other than clean it. LOVE the bits of old red paint showing here and there. The old gray weathered wood lends itself perfectly to the rustic vibes going on in this room!
Sometimes a sliding barn door is same ole'... but with this original D-shaped hardware, I think this one goes up a notch in the "awe factor" where barn doors are concerned. :)
There is a great story about those window seats you see peeking out of the corner - how we were going to pay someone $900 to build them along two walls and ended up using a plank walkway we found in the barn instead! I see a lot of barn doors and was wondering what keeps the bottom from hitting the wall as the doors are being opened? Is there hardware on the bottom that I cannot see???

love, love, love your door. I'm from Iowa too and have had my eye on my grandparents old barn which is falling down. What type of pesticide would you recommend to use?
