Does spray-in attic insulation lose any insulation integrity over time or does the insulation maintain its insulation

Brent B on Feb 08, 2011The new type of foam used is much more chemically inert (and stable) than foams of the past. This stuff is made to last. The foam has been used for over 30 years in commercial metal low-slope roofs. The heat of that environment is far more than you'll ever sustain in your home, and there is no need to add or replace in later years (unless you want a higher R Value). The biggest concern with spray-in insulation, as I see it, is the possibility of having to remove it in the event of a leak.Helpful Reply

Select Home Needs, Inc. on Feb 08, 2011Spray in cellulose will have a shrinkage factor. It wont loose any integrity and you can always add more!Helpful Reply

3po3 on Feb 08, 2011Cellulose insulation settles over time, but should retain its insulation levels. However, any moisture can seriously diminish the thermal efficiency of the insulation.Helpful Reply

Trey P on Sep 24, 2011Blown fibergass insulation or fiberglass batts do not settle or deteriorate over time. Foam Insulation is way over priced for its value. If you seal the penetration RIGHT and install R15 or R21 high density fiberglass batts in the walls. You will get a great R-Value at a reasonable price.Helpful Reply
