From Thrift Store Find to Kitchen Island!

We currently have a rectangular dining table that we're halfway using as an island. However, since it's not counter height, whenever I prep, I have to sit in a chair. Not very practical, or comfortable! On a (fairly) recent trip to our local thrift store, my husband spotted this oval dining table that was counter height so we picked it up with plans to use it as a kitchen island.
Here it is, fresh out of our car and not even dusted or wiped down, yet, but in wonderful shape! It was marked at $50, I think, but because we bought it on a holiday, we got $10 off. Not bad for $40!
I wanted to do something "special" to the top, and so my husband and I agreed on decoupaging a French recipe onto it to go along with the rest of our always-in-updating-mode French Country-ish kitchen. I found a beef bourguignon recipe in French and had it printed at my local print shop for $60 (3x5 size) on very high-quality, thick paper. I LOVE this font and use it for lots of other stuff, too. I found it online for free and - coincidentally - it's based on Paul Cezanne's handwriting! I love how it is "imperfect."
Here's what the table looked like after decoupaging the recipe onto it. I wanted the words to span all the way across form side-to-side and top-to-bottom, so I trimmed it down to create a 3" border. But now this meant I had to trim it out with something...hhhmmmm....
We stopped by Michael's and picked up this braided rope-ish trim and these metal thumbtacks. My husband cut the thumbtack backs off and I hot glued everything in place.
E voila! Here's what it looks like now. The only step left is to coat the top and that small shelf below with Envirotex Lite and move it into the kitchen! :-p C'est si bon!
