Is it just me or does this seem a bit "over the top"?

Heading back from some work in Wyoming, my client wanted to take me out for a bite at a Restaurant in Fort Collins. They were going to continue on down to Denver for a night at the symphony. After we ate at this neat Brazilian Grill. I took the back roads home along the edge of foothills, rather than zipping down the less attractive stretch of I-25.

I happened along this place....I have to say it is probably the biggest home I have ever seen.

I think this could be a private school in Colorado! In Widefield, CO there is a private school that is very simular in looks, with cows & horses and students that board from grade K through 12th.

This is an example of "adding on" gone bad!! And, can I say, they need a landscaper.

The people that live there can possibly be in some sort of cult...They all live together and their houses are usually huge,,Just a thought! The house is ugly to me! And so is the property!

Amazing how some feel driven to own something this large. I hope they either have a very large family, or that they do frequent, large group entertaining. Bet the contractor had a field day!

Just out of curiosity I went to our counties assessors web page.

Which is all part of the public domain and available for anyone to view.

The county has this property's data showing a 11, 409 foot "addition" completed a few years back.

The totals now come in at

    main floor 9870 ...»

    upper floor 11207

    finished garden level 2776

    unfinished basement 7104

    total 30957

    Attached Garage at 3878

For a comparison The home I grew up in, back in Michigan, could have been purchased for what this home owner pays in property taxes in two years.

I must admit a home like this appeals to some, and I' sure the owner has indirectly supplied income for many folks in the building trades, It is their choice to live like they do.

"IT IS THEIR CHOICE TO LIVE LIKE THEY DO" - EXACTLY!!!!!

And perhaps more importantly, this info is available to anyone as a part of public domain and FOIA. If you "own" anything, anyone can access the files!!

I think the only thing missing from this picture is a BRIGHT ORANGE FENCE POST - just NOT attached to the house!!

This house is just ridiculous....it's probably so chopped inside that it just doesn't make sense. We have some in Atlanta now with a home under construction that has to be about 30,000sf...maybe more....it's ridiculous. It's completely out of scale with anything in the neighborhood and really looks more like a hotel or a college dorm. To each their own!

@Susan S - lol, sorry, the rose was just so beautiful and it brought a smile to my face. Dad planted that bush before he died and yesterday when I walked outside and saw that perfect looking rose it was as if he just stopped by to say hello

It looks like a bunch of condos. Are you sure it's a single family?

It a single family...how big the family is is unknown. The county records dept has a "history" of the permits issued over the years...new roofing, swimming pool, additions etc.

Well, I just came back from a family reunion vacation and had a chance to tour the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. That one is supposed to be the largest single family house in the USA. It looks a lot more unified. Of course that is a Vanderbilt house and it really is a castle. This looks like a condo to me.

I agree I have seen pics of the Biltmore...this thing is long and skinny which makes if seem really big from the road.
