Where To Buy Used Furniture Perfect For Painting

Here are some ideas of places to pick up great used furniture that is good quality and just needs to be refinished:
Garage Sales – There are some great deals at garage sales on used furniture. However, know that you will probably need to drive by a3bout 20-30 garage sales before you find the right piece. Don’t focus on hitting one big sale. Instead, map your garage sale route to hit as many garage sales as possible. It is oftentimes the hidden, small garage sales that are not as busy that have the best pieces of furniture available at for a great deal. It’s also important to hit the garage sales early. If the garage sales in your area start at 8, start driving by them around 7 to check out what furniture they have displayed. That way, when you find what you are looking for, you can be sure to be the first one there.
Thrift Stores – Check out the local thrift stores in your area. You may need to drive around and visit a few, but they usually have a few pieces of furniture all the time. Also, know that thrift stores usually change their inventory daily, so it may take visiting the same one day after day to find the right piece. Some thrift store prices can be a little on the high side. However, if a piece doesn’t sell, they will usually continually drop the price until it does. So, if you find something you like, but is priced too high, just wait it out and the price may come down after a few days.
Online Local Ads – Check out your local ads (craigslist, ksl, backpage etc.) and see if anyone is selling a piece of furniture that is what you are looking for. If you find the right piece, but the price is too high for you, try offering less. This is sometimes a convenient place to start because you can quickly skim over lots of images before finding what you are looking for. Be aware that the good ones usually go fast!

Don't forget estates sales and flea markets! Takes a lil' more planning for the hunt, but some of the coolest and unsual can be found here. Fleas have done some of the hunt beforehand. Why? Because they want to draw in those savvy buyers so often times they have hand picked what will sell the most. Though yard sales and thrifts may have the better price point, they don't always have the cool and unusual.
