Had door removed to lay flooring, now door shuts on it's own. How do I get it to stay open?

HandyANDY - Handyman & All Repairs, LLC on May 28, 2012Try adjusting the hinges...what kind of flooring? What did you remove...just the door or the entire jamb? Put a level up against the door to give you an idea how out of plumb it is. More than likely you can move the upper hinge in the jamb back towards the wall and that should solve the problem. Pics help too!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on May 29, 2012The door is closing on its own because its not mounted square. Another way to stop this occurrence is to remove one hing pin and slightly bend it, not to much but enough to make it bind a bit more in the hinge. This binding will stiffen up the hinge stopping the door from moving.Helpful Reply
