Painting your front door - easier than you may think!

Our front door was boring and plain ol' white. Using a couple coats and paint over two days we were able to change the colour of our front door and provide some much needed curb appeal to our ticky tacky house. Read the full how-to here... http://www.aswellplacetodwell.com/2012/05/sh...

This is great! Fun colorful doors are like jewelry to a home! when I approach or see a fun door I know the people inside are cool too!

Great job Kelly, like I said on your blog post, dark colors are the toughest to work with on any surface.

Thanks Jeff. I have a lot of dark colours in our house and yes, they can be quite frustrating sometimes. It's worth it though....even though it usually takes at least one more coat of paint than I would like.

I feel your pain, literally and in my pocketbook. Dark colors add to the expense of painting a room because so many coats are needed. But it's worth it to get a bold look.

Wow, great job! Guess I'll have to wait till ot cools off before I dare take the door off the hinges, cause it also will have to be sanded down before I repaint it...using tinted primer of course! Hope mine turns out as pretty as yours...

Good for you! Kelly! I know you just have a huge grin each time you walk up the drive. You sound just like me when I'm trying to decide on something LOL

I actually don't live in Hawaii. I live in Alberta, Canada but when I registered I had to put in a zip code. I had recently just sent something to Hawaii so I just tossed in the zip code. I need to figure out how to change it now! I sure wish I lived in Hawaii though.

And I thought you and the door looked Hawaiian.

You can send a note to Miriam on any admin question.

Yes, I did. Unfortunately there isn't the option to enter a Canadian Postal Code yet, so unless I connect the account to facebook I get to keep pretending that I live in Hawaii! :)

We had that same boring white door and I hated it. We painted ours cranberry and then bought a glass storm door trimmed in cranberry to match, then added, shutters...in cranberry. Having a home is kind of like the kids book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie"

A storm door that's trimmed the same color would be awesome!

I found the color & the storm door I liked and painted the door. Whe the storm door went on sale is when I bought mine. Check w/your home improvement stores to find out when they will be putting storm doors on sale and plan accordingly. Or, if you get coupons from your store, you can save that way. I "doubled up", the door was on sale & I had a 15% coupon from Lowes. Storm door was originally $245.00, marked down to $199.00 then used the coupon.
