Create whimsical overflowing teacups for home decor and to give as gifts!

Inspired by a post from Grillo Designs, I made some tipped teacups! For the project, I purchased several cups and saucers at HomeGoods, Christmas Tree Shops, and That! and then visited my local Michael's Crafts for a variety of flowers in colors that would complement each cup and saucer set. I purchased a set of cheap forks from Walmart that were lightweight. Then, I set to work! 1. I bent a fork at an angle, and hot glued it to the saucer. I decided to use pieces of wood shims, cut to slivers, to provide additional stability to the fork. The cedar shim pieces are leftover from another project.

2. I chose flowers, such as Hydrangea, because they come in bunches, and cut separate flowers from the bunches to glue onto the fork. For another cup, I chose small Orchids that cascaded alongside the fork easily when glued in place.

3. Cover the entire fork, front and back, with flowers, gluing in place as you work. I chose not to completely cover the saucer, because I liked its whimsical pattern.

4. Use a generous amount of hot glue to attach the cup to the top of the fork. Add more flowers, if desired, to complete the illusion. I chose to completely hide the silver of the fork. It's fun to see people's reactions when they see the cups, as they try to figure out how they are attached to the saucers!

Tip: Some cups have a finish that have curved edges and are more challenging to attach, due to gravity. I solved that problem with a light weight clip, which was glued to the clip, cup and fork - to keep it all secure! Then, "flowered" around all that apparatus!

How do you keep the weight of the cup from throwing it off balance? By the way I love this.

I have been looking everywhere for tea cups and saucers, but cannot find them anywhere, that are cost effective. Goodwill, Salvation Army, local thrift stores, yard sales. Any ideas on where else I might be able to find them? TIA
