Although I love turning hanging light fixtures into planters for succulents, the time had come for me to do something with the twenty or so lamps that have been pining away in my barn. Coincidentally, it was also time for me to clean out the barn. There is nothing simpler than turning a lamp base into a planter: first find a lamp base with a large enough opening to accommodate a small pot; second, remove all the hardware; third, insert the small pot containing a small plant. My first lamp-base planter. I had planned to paint it after removing the hardware, but felt it looked pretty just the way it was. I never gild lilies.
The top opening on this lamp base was far too narrow for a pot, but the bottom opening was perfect. That's why the butterflies are flying upside down.
Technically not a lamp base, this planter is a porch light and cheap vase combo. After removing the hardware, I painted all the brass and a small vase which now holds a jade plant.
