This is my sideboard/dresser that sits on my deck. Found this old piece in our magic barn and put plastic liners in the drawers and fashioned a metal top for it. It also has a light inside that glows at night. Have no idea where it came from, but is now one of my favorite planters! I

Last year before we had made the metal cover for the top water leaked into the cabinet right on the 5 watt bulb I have hanging inside and boy were there fireworks! My son and his friends were all siting on the deck and boy did they move fast! Sparks came flying right out of the cabinet!

LOL!! Bet you didn't know those guys could move so fast! I was going to say "teenage boys" but I think I remember a post w/your son's pic, if we're talking the same son, and he's about 29 or so??

The timing of this didn't happen to come around the 4th of July by any means, did it? You could have told them it was seasonal entertainment.

This is an awesome planter!! Question: Have you painted/sprayed the outside of it so it wont mold or fall apart?! I had a wishing well and let it 'weather' and then I never painted it with a clear coat to stop it where it was! Now, I have lost it!! I would love to do this, but what can you do to the outside so it wont mold and fall apart!! Thank you!

Thanks Pam. I love this piece too. Haven't clear coated it. We did fashion a custom-fit metal top for it out of an old garage drip pan that was under my Dad's car and it keeps water from getting inside the cabinet. We put treated lumber in the bottom of the cabinet and plastic planters sit inside the bottomless drawers. No mold at all and the water flows through and any wetness dries out quickly. We've screwed the doors together after the old glue failed and after a few tweeks in the ...»
spring they have held together. I've had it with flowers in it for about five years and so far, so good. I have yet to find a clear coat that looks good and holds up in our Michigan weather, not even spar varnish. I have the attitude that things will live their lives out as they will and when they are finished I move on to a new project. I will always have pics to remind me of how beautiful they once were.

You are so inspiring Julee. While out thrifting today I saw a couple of pieces that I really liked, but had no idea what I could do with them. Now I do. I hope they are still there when I go back.

This is beautiful. Now I know how I can make raised beds that are high enough I don't have to bend or crawl around. I would definitely have to put everal coats of marine urathene on them though because of all our rain.

Thank you Jayme! Hope they are still there too, if not keep looking! So where is Bellaire Michigan? I'm in Bangor, near the lake between Kalamazoo and South Haven.
