Potted Hibiscus

April
by April
Early in the year I got 3 hibiscus plugs and planted them in pots because my ground was not ready. I have my space ready now. Can I transplant them mid season? Should I wait till spring?

This is a hardy hibiscus, right? If so, I would plant it in the ground. There's still plenty of time for it to establish a good root system, then mulch well when the ground freezes. It it stays in a pot that size I think you would need to bring it in for the winter.

@Douglas Hunt That's what I thought but this has been a very strange weather summer for us. I am seeing plants come up that I thought were long gone and other regular ones disappear. thanks for the reply.

I agree, get it in the ground. I live in North Idaho. Gets very cold, snow. I cut my hibiscus to the ground after it has stopped blooming or early fall. They do need a lot of water and fertilizing. I just use Miracle Grow.
