Help Recycle Chandelier in Candle Light

I picked up this chandelier at a garage sale and wanted to make it into the popular candle light chandelier that are popping up all over. As you can see in the pictures my honey took out all the wiring. It did come with glass hurricanes that seemed to have an unmentionable accident, they are forever gone. Please give me ideas and help. My decor is romantic shabby chic-country.
Dusty and needs a cleaning, but you can see the basic design.

First I would paint it a color that coordinated with the room you will be putting it in. You could paint it a color then do a quick brush on and wipe off in a white or cream color to give you the shabby chic look. I love the look of candles but without the mess so I've been using battery operated pillar candles that have a built in timer. I found a set of 5 with batteries at Costco. I have 4 sets ! I have 2 in sconces in the bedroom, 1 on each step in my entryway, which looks nice at night looking in through our beveled front door. You could put something like that in place of where the lights were.
  • I just did the same thing to almost exactly the same thing. You can see my Hometalk piece about it or check the instructions on my blog.....www.newhousenewhomenewlife.com

@Heather (New House New Home) Love the use of the Mason jars. What's more shabby chic?

I redid one while keeping it electric once to hang in our kitchen to replace the weird little light that was I there. Now I'm working on one with candles too! I'll post about it once finished.

I love Heather's it's great for the outside. I wouldn't use real candles on the inside, our houses aren't made for them these days, Mary's idea is wonderful.

I did the same thing as aboveI painted all white and took clear vintage cups and saucers and glued them onto where the lights would go ( i used e6000) but you can use flame less candles for either indoor or on the patio

@Tammy Sweet Thanks for the advice, I like that look also. I was wondering if I could use some type of clear or crystal glass instead of the china cups so the light would show through. Do you light yours and does it give off any light?

That's what I did , sorry I didnt say that, I used clear tea cups and clear saucers. :)

Very similar to one I did recently. Found clear punch cups in very modern shape at Goodwill; 25 cents each and then my "senior" discount. Tinted the cups with food coloring and ModPodge. Did a very light tint, if I were doing it now, I would have made them darker. I go to Goodwill and Salvation Army stores weekly for craft pieces.

Thank you for your comment, I too go to the local Goodwill for craft supplies and such. I would love to see a picture of yours. It sounds beautiful.

Im seeing tons of the hurricane replacement glass at my local goodwill. Im not sure why there are so many being donated, but if you want to look there, at your local store, or a habitat. Im also doing a candelabra out of my old thrifted cast iron chandelier, I am not using any glass or candle holder type thing. The one I have has perfect sized light bulb inserts and the rounded wax catch below each light bulb holder. It looks like candlesticks were meant to be instead of bulbs! This is going on our master bedroom balcony, it covered so no rain putting out the flames!

Lisa, I am going to ask my son to come help me post a picture; as soon as I find the cable connections for the computer. My DIL wants me to send her some pics of things I have done this summer.
