Douglas Hunt on Aug 25, 2013Yes, bittersweet, and a very invasive plant. If you must use the real stuff for decor, make sure you put it in a plastic bag and throw it away. Do not compost!Helpful Reply

TJ on Aug 26, 2013According to USDA, there are two types of bittersweet - one is native and not invasive but the other is an introduced variety and very invasive. Its the Celastrus orbiculatus, or "oriental bittersweet" vine that is among North America's most invasive plants (it has thorns and berries along the stems/vines). But the native Celastrus scandens, also called "American bittersweet" plant or "false bittersweet" is not invasive (berries are only at the vine tips and stems are smooth without thorns.)Helpful Reply

Pat Mountfort on Sep 02, 2013thought I wanted some but now I can't get rid of it. It is still coming up everywhere and we dug up what we thought was all the roots. It has been 5 years since we dug it up and it is still coming up every where. It will even kill mature trees if you don't keep up with it.Helpful Reply
