Debbie Harris on Nov 17, 2013Looks like your table is off-set from the sky light. If that's the case maybe hanging a drop pendant or chandelier, or trying wall sconces???Helpful Reply

Vintage Headboards on Nov 18, 2013The least expensive route would be to have a light that plugs into the outlet on the half wall and have the decorative cord swag over the center of the table and have a thumb switch to turn it on and off. For me that would get old pretty fast. It wouldn't cost that much to have an electrician run a wire from the existing power to a junction box above the table. I am very surprised there already isn't one there. You would also need some drywall work too. If a light is not already over the table that could also hurt resale vale of the home. Good luck with whichever route you choose.Helpful Reply

Tanya Peterson Felsheim on Nov 18, 2013I really like the information from @Vintage Headboards and I ran into the same issue in my kitchen, I wanted to remove the tiny light in the middle and put drop lights around and he said it would only take him about 20 minutes to do! He was easily able to crawl into the attic and find a plug that could handle the load of the lights and was worth it. I agree resale value means a lot with things light a light over a dining area.Helpful Reply

Silver Geras on Nov 19, 2013Home Depot and Lowes have pendent lights that you use over your can lights, you remove the bulb and the pendents screw in and have a cover to go over the can and you have a variety of ones to choose from. I used them over my isle and in the hall, was tired of can lights wanted something more decorative...check them out they are inexpensive and nice.Helpful Reply

Kathryn Kelly on Nov 19, 2013Another idea for something simple would be to put a standing lamp in the corner. That could be a temporary fix until you are able to do the ceiling lighting. Just make sure the lamp has a 3 way switch to offer low, med., and high light.Helpful Reply

Polly Zieper on Nov 19, 2013I must be missing something- Why can't you get a standing lamp or buy a hanging lamp for over the table? An electrician can drill into the ceiling and find the wires.Helpful Reply

Centrd on Nov 19, 2013If you want something other than a swag pendant light you could try something different, make a statement with a dramatic floor lamp like one of these. Two I found at overstock & rugsusa.com . One looks like a DIY. If you do a search for arc floor lamp, you'll find lots of options of standing lamps that might work.Helpful Reply

Sharlene clair on Apr 28, 2015I'm in the same pickle you are. My question was posted above. I think I'm going to ask Home Depot and possibly add some mirror tiles to the wells of the skylight.Helpful Reply
