Winterizing a Rain Barrel

1 Hour
Easy
I received an email last week from Blue Water Baltimore, a local conservation organization. I had purchased a (subsidized) rain barrel from them earlier in the year and installed it. The email outlined the basic steps for Winterizing my Rain Barrel.
I detailed the install here on HomeTalk >> Installing a Manufactured Rain Barrel. While their/these instructions were designed specifically for my rain barrel, I can’t imagine that they are that much different for any manufacturer or style.
Basically 4 simple and easy to follow steps. ...
Empty the Barrel (I used the water to, well, water.)
Remove or Leave Spigot Open. Remove Diverter and Install Winter Cover. Remove Filter Screen if Applicable.
Store or Weigh down barrel. I loaded all supplies inside the barrel.

We sort of winged winterizing our rain barrels this year. We simply emptied them then put tarps over the top. Here's to hoping it's successful come spring! *fingers crossed* Your method seems quite a bit more thorough/responsible. If we could take the tops off ours, it'd be nice to store all the 'accessories' inside :D

hi @Trisha D. @bnwobsession ... Does yours connect like mine or I think I have seen some that just drain in at the top. Either way, if water isn't actively entering the barrel you're probably good to go. Stay warm and thanks for connecting.
