Upcycle Old Keys - Let It Snow Wall Art

This year husband and I decided not to give each other Christmas presents, but he surprised me and brought me home a large jar of keys. The challenge to upcycle the keys.
Various thoughts came to mind, windchimes, wall art, coat hooks. Playing with the keys I realized they could look like snowflakes.
I found some old planks of wood in the shed. I cut these to length and glued together.
On the back I used another piece of wood to support the plaque.
I used Rustoleum chalk paint to paint the background of the plaque. Chalk paint is so versatile, I love how I don't need to prep the wood with primer.
I printed the words let it snow. On the back of the paper I rubbed chalk, then placing the paper in place I used a ball point pen to draw round the edge of each letter. The chalk transferred to the wood producing a guide to paint within.
Thinning down the chalk paint a little I painted the letters in, using two coats of chalk paint.
The keys were sprayed with Novasol Spray white chalk paint, which dries within fifteen minutes.
Once dry I used long screws to screw several keys to the plaque in snowflake like formation.
Click through to my blog post to see the variety of animal creations my husband and children made with the keys - they are really rather cute and unique.

I also see yard art using keys...they'd make neat looking flowers or the centers of flowers...thanks for the inspiration
