How to Make a JOY Grapevine Wreath

I wanted a new wreath for our front door for Christmas and wanted to come up with something fun, festive and a little different. I found this grapevine wreath the other day for $1.95 and new it had some great potential. For years we had the green garland style wreath and I would change the bow from plaid to stripes and or add ornaments or pinecones. Sometimes a girls needs a change…right?? Here’s how it started out.
Just a nice plain and simple grapevine wreath for $1.95. Score!!! You can find wreaths everyday of the week at Thrift Stores. Side noted – I found another that I posted a picture of on our Fb page yesterday that you should see what I did with it for our side porch French doors. I’ll show you that soon…I LOVE how it turned out. Then I shopped my house and found some things to add to it. I pulled some ribbon from my gift wrap bag, some silver small frames (I had bought a big bag of them from a thrift store for $1.95 and used some for Thanksgiving place settings too and still have more). Remember when I went up to Northern California and we picked up lots of pinecones. I grabbed a couple of those too. Here’s what I did: 1. Paint white on to the tips of the pinecones to look like snow and add some coarse sea salt while wet to look like snow. I’ve heard you can use Epsom salt too. 2. Gather some clothespins from your laundry room and some red & white craft paint. 3. Cut some painters tape to make stripes and begin painting cute red stripes on them. 4. Once the red is dry pull the tape and paint on the white stripes the same way. 5. Take the small frames and hand paint the letters J O Y on them with red paint. If you don’t want to hand paint you can print from your computer using a big font too. 6. Pull a branch from the back of the wreath and use the clothespins to clip the small photo frames on. 7. Take your hand painted two pinecones and tie them onto the top of the wreath with wire or twine. 8. Make a pretty big bow with wire ribbon. I used red & white striped and red with white snowflakes mixed together. I find big bags of wired ribbon and mixed ribbons at Thrift Stores for $5.95 and it will have over $100 worth of ribbon inside. Just a little tip there. And that’s how you add a little J O Y in to your holidays and make a pretty Joy Grapevine Wreath!! It was super easy to make cost me $1.95 for the wreath since I had the other goodies in my house! It took about an hour to make because of the painting. If you want to do it quick, print your Joy letters and skip the painted clothespins and tie pretty ribbon to hang them. Hope you like the way it turned out. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day, Lisa
