Are they dirty?Or rusted? Because you can fix that! Just make sure not to get a harsh, general flatware cleaner, get one specific for gold so that it doesn't scratch or erode your silverware. Good luck!!

Clean stubborn stains on gold flatware with cornstarch paste on a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive scrubbers or stiff brushes. Another one you might can try is CLR from Home Depot.

This type of flatware was made of a base metal and the coated in a 'gold wash'. Once it wears off, it is gone and you have an uknown base metal exposed, and I sure would not eat off them then. It was a process that used very little, low quality gold chemically electrolited onto the base metal. They were popular in the 60's as a display fad, more than for long usage. (Uness they came right off the Czar's table) Some people would not use them anyway as the chemicals used in the fusion process may be harmful. Some manufacturers may re-coat them, some jewelers may know of someone who can 'recoat' them, but it would be expensive and is rarely done and hard to find.
