Since I’m working on decorating my marble & gold office right now ( check out my inspiration for the room here), I decided to make something that will fit right in with that style. I grabbed a broken slab of marble from ReStore and turned it into painted marble decor for my office and I just love how it turned out. Scroll down for the full tutorial.

I was over the moon when I saw this little broken slab of marble at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I was even more excited when I took it to the cash register and paid just $1 for it! I have been working on getting my Marble & Gold office ready for reveal day and this carrara couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve had my heart set on creating a painted marble decor piece for the room to put up on my awesome art shelves from Minted.

I started by giving the marble a good cleaning. I love this Meyer’s Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner from Grove Collaborative. Visit the blog post (link at the bottom of this page) to get $10 off when you sign up and order for the first time at Grove Collaborative! This Iowa Pine winter seasonal scent is AH-MAZING. We also love the Basil scent for all the rest of the seasons.

Next I traced out my lettering by hand with a pencil. If you mess up, the pencil will wipe right off the marble. The trick to doing “fake” calligraphy by hand is writing your letters in cursive a little more spread out than normal and then going back and making all of your down strokes thicker. If I was doing this again, I would use my Silhouette Cameo to make a stencil, but I couldn’t find my power cord for it when I was working on this…so I went old school and did it by hand.

Lastly I just used a small paint brush and carefully filled it in over my traced letters. I ended up doing 2 coats and it filled great!

I love how the metallic paint shimmers in the light! I can’t wait to get it in my Marble & Gold Office… the big reveal day is just a couple weeks away! Be sure to subscribe (link at the top of this page) so you don’t miss it!
