Crafternoons: How to make paper decoupage without wrinkles

Oh yeahhh, did I ever play with paper this weekend!
I have been using Golden Polymer Mediums and a little tack iron to make scrapbook paper decoupage ... without wrinkles! Zero wrinkles! It looks so professional. I found the technique online, shared by professional collage artists on their blogs. I tried it myself many times now, and I haven't seen a wrinkle in paper since.

Here are a few pics of the process. It's three steps: COAT - DESIGN - HEAT.
You coat the scrapbook papers with Golden Polymer Medium, both sides, and you coat the surface you will apply paper to.
Then you play with paper! You create your collage or decoupage design.
Then you run an iron over the papers (with a teflon or silicon release paper in between your iron and your decoupage papers). This will fuse the Golden Polymer Medium on all the surfaces, fusing everything together.
I've been making niche display boxes this weekend with a mix of pink patterned papers, inspired by the Pink City of Jaipur in India!

thank you for posting this. I recently had my first experience with decoupage. It is part of a larger project, so will share when done. Because of my experience with veneering I ended up resorting to ironing some wrinkles and it worked pretty well. But if I had saw your post earlier I would have "ironed earlier" rather than the next day. How long of drying time do you recommend before ironing? Thanks again for posting.
Would non-stick cooking parchment work as a release paper?
I'm definitely going to investigate this technique. I decoupage quite often while creating my mixed-media art projects, and there are often times when I wish I could get something to lay flat. Thanks for the tips.
