I have a lamp that I want to switch out the shade on but holy moly I had no idea how expensive just shades are. Is there a way for me to strip the shade off the existing frame and reuse the frame for a new shade? And if so what material can I use and how do I do it? Thank you!!!

Have you ever recovered a lampshade? Do you have any pictures?

It can be a challenging DIY project to get it to be 'neat and even'. But if you find it not working for you, you can take it to a lamp shop, not cheap, but professionally done.

I recovered my old lamp shade with fabric I had lift over . Thing you need fabric , cloth pins, and fabric glue . Cut fabric to fit with a couple off inch.over. Glue fabric around the top using cloth pins to hold until the glue set , repeat at the bottom making sue to over lap the seam on the side .

Shades can be very expensive so I usually buy mine at Tuesday Morning, Ross, or Home Goods, or sometimes at our only local store...very, very small town I live in. I keep my older ones covered on the top shelf of my closet so I can switch things around later on.

Granny was in a re-upholstery mood. Took a small piece of leftover material, larger all around than old lamp shade. Sewed along edges to keep from ravelling. Pinned edges for main seam down side. Placed on the old shade and went around edges just tacking it in place. Then took the whole thing and very carefully sewed it at top and bottom with the sewing machine.
