Very simple you need to water proof your container. There is a spray that will achieve this... when your ready lowes or homedepot sell small pumps for this purpose. Fill with water , insert pump turn on

if the container is plastic you got it made, no water proofing.
If its wood I'd buy a piece of pond liner ( usually EPDM or butyl rubber, butyl being more flexible) you can adhere it to side with Silicone rubber. No way this will leak. As stated above a small submersible pump which you can get at pet stores and some garden centers. Look for a garden center that has pond supplies and you will probably be able to get everything there.
just a few thoughts on fountains- they require maintenance - the water will evaporate, or turn green with algae, critters will drink from it, the cord supplying power to the pump may get shredded by the lawn mower, solar panels need a full sun exposure to power the pump. not to mention skeeter breading ground when pump is off for the night. most garden supply stores carry fountain kits, and the chemicals to treat the algae. water quality - oh yeah...my currant abode has incredibly hard water...lots of lime scale to build up in the fountain heads.
if you are seriously wanting a fountain- go big and deep. galvanized metal stock containers, half whisky barrels, think lots of surface area, and if you can, condition the water so a gold fish or 2 can keep the bugs out of the water.
