Bunch O Balloons DIY Fountain

8 Materials
This summer we discovered "bunch o balloons” (self-filling water balloons), and boy are they a bunch of fun! The nephews/grands enjoyed many water balloon fights with them!
We discovered once the balloons were gone, we were left with plastic water hose fittings which looked like they’d make an awesome DIY fountain.
The finished fountain looks great on Steph's porch!

Having fun with bunch o balloons!
The leftover hose fittings from Bunch O Balloons.
Step one was to clean up an old, dirty terra cotta pot we found in the backyard and then painting it with a pop of color.
An old metal serving tray was found in mom’s garage which fit perfectly into the top of the pot. We drilled a hole in the middle of the tray for the balloon hose to fit through and drilled additional holes though the metal top for water to drain. The tray was then painted with the same paint as the pot.
In the garden department of Home Depot, we picked up a basic fountain pump, tubing, and hose adapter.
We wanted the fountain power cord to come out the bottom of the pot so we first enlarged the hole to fit the plug through, then we cut a piece of foam to the size of the hole to fit around the cord.
Then we sealed the hole so it was leakproof, we used Sugru, which is a waterproof, moldable glue.
We cleaned up an old planter stand and used it to hold the fountain on Steph's porch. We filled the pot with water to cover the pump.
Then we screwed the balloon hose in place, put the metal plate on top, and added clear rocks.
Plug in the pump and done! This fountain is a great addition to Steph's porch. This idea could be used in other fountain or pond configurations. We can also switch out the balloon hose if this one gets damaged or we want a different color.
The LED lights really look cool at night!

  • Super cool, but does the water spray out over the pot? I couldn't tell from the photo where the water stream was? The night view is beautiful.

Very pretty especially in your night pics. Where did the color changing LED lights come from and when did you put them in your pretty fountain? Clever idea using things that you'd normally throw away once their intended purpose was used. Love how creative you and your mom are!

I thought you mentioned self filling balloons - people are calling the clear balls clear rocks? so I am confused what are the main clear things in the tray?
