How can I add cabinets on top of my cabinets?

I want to add cabinets on top of my short kitchen cabinets. I have high ceilings and short (30") cabinets, thinking about adding partial glass front, possibly lighted 12"cabinets on top. And want to add backslash under and over top. Replacing all cabinets is not an option due to budget. Also want to paint existing cabinets. Counters will stay. They are expensive granite. Y'all have such great ideas!! Help!

They make 12" by 12" x what ever length all day. These can be a lot less expensive than the full cabinet. Lowe's, HomeDepot and cabinet shops can get you all you want. I real low budget might require habitat shops
Hi Barb, yes you can. Here's a tutorial on Hometalker from someone who needed to add cabinets to her cabinets.
