I bought what I thought was a good roasting pan....brand name and it has rusted. How can I use this pan again without getting poisoned from the rust?

I would call the manufacturer's hotline, and ask why it rusted, and how to fix or ask for a replacement.

Is it cast iron? If so, I would scrub off the rust, try salt first and elbow grease. If that doesn't remove it, I would use brillo pad. Turn oven on real low 200 degrees, then rub the roaster with lard generously, I like to put a pat or two on the bottom, and then periodically open the oven and use a paper towel to get the lard on all the insides. Let cool and sit. Repeat till the pan is black. this is called seasoning, and must not be removed. Let cool and sit.

Don't let a cast iron pan sit with water or liquid in it, And don't wash in soapy water, I rinse it in hot water, and wipe clean. I use paper towel to dry well, and also put a bit of lard or bacon fat on it, keeping it well oiled/seasoned.

You can try putting salt in the pan and add lemon juice.

If all else fails, do what we do...purchase one of those huge foil baking roasting things that seem to come out every Thanksgiving and Christmas, :) and line your roastpan with that. It saves us a whack of clean-up! :)

Lots of times our pizza pans rust because my husband puts them in the sink and they sit in water. I just use a SOS pad, then wash and dry immediately. Of course you can't do this if it is non stick. If it has a shiny finish like my painted broiler pan, it will dull it.
