The little devils once destroyed an entire huge bed of bulbs I'd spent a day planting! I gave up bulbs. They regularly dig in my potted plants, so I feel your pain, Toopaz!
Squirrels are hard to deal with so plant bulbs they don't like - you'll see they leave daffodils alone! I love the many types and colors of tulips but it just was too disheartening to see them gobbled down every week.
Before planting, you could very loosely surround the bulbs with chicken wire leaving an opening at the top for the stems to be able to come up.
