shelves, bookcases, plastic drawers, think to use wall space and curtains to divide space
find and old wood dresser and use the drawers as a shelf, wooden crates also make great storage And can be multi use as a end table or coffee table. Old suitcases stacked or metal baskets all make great small storage.
I live in a studio, too. The trick is to pare down to only what is absolutely essential, and use bins, boxes, baskets, trays and other receptacles to store the rest. A bookcase became my TV stand and the shelves hold baskets for storing office and computer supplies. I have a set of plastic drawers in my closet to hold off season wear. My desk has a built-in shelving unit which also helps to corral office supplies and letter trays for paper. Hang a pegboard in the kitchen for pots and pans and kitchen utensils if cabinet space is at a premium. The trick is to be organized and keep clutter to a minimum.
A captain's bed, or storage bed with an underbed dresser is an amazing space saver. Storage ottomans are helpful too. I have also used low profile wall mounted cabinets in leu of bedside tables. Pendant lighting to save on floor space. The top of the fridge is usually rich with usable storage space, as are doors and tops of doorways. I have mounted shelves at the tops of doors and on doors. A rail system is awesome in tiny kitchens. Pretty much anything wall mounted helps in small spaces. Hope this helps!
I love to use military surplus trunks. I spray paint in a beautiful neutral gray tone and add legs. The coffee table one holds all my Christmas decorations. The two side table ones hold extra bedding, photos and other misc item.
Yes to the pare down to the basics. But by my door I have a thin shelf unit. 2 shelves are for shoes (storage and when you first enter the house and need to take off your shoes), and one shelf with baskets. This has helped me greatly in keeping the area by the door organized, and not having shoes everywhere to trip on. I use this instead of taking room in my closet for some of the shoes I wear often.
