Don’t throw away those empty jars until you see this magical idea! These mermaids in a jar are the perfect way to light up the night.
My girls are mermaid obsessed these days. And with school being out for the summer, I wanted to find a cute craft idea they could make themselves out of stuff we already had. These Mermaids in a Jar are the perfect way to add a touch of goddess to any room. Add glam to a beach themed bathroom, kids’ room, guest room or jazz up your patio. The possibilities are endless!
Start off with your empty jar being washed out and dried completely. Next, tint your jar by filling the inside with about an inch and a half of Mod Podge and a few drops of your desired color of food coloring.
Roll your jar in a circular motion coating the sides of the jar. Once evenly coated, place your jar upside down for the extra Mod Podge to run out without caking at the bottom. After about 20 minutes, flip your jar back over and leave in the sun until it has dried completely. To speed this process up you could always place the wet jar in the oven and bake at 320 degrees F for 20 minutes. Works like a charm!
Once your jar has dried, cover your googled Mermaid silhouette in a thin layer of Mod Podge and stick to the inside of your jar. You want the darkest part facing out so it will stand out more once the candle sits behind the image.
Wrap your Mermaid in a jar with the decorative fish netting and secure to the top and bottom with hot glue.
