Douglas Hunt on Jan 28, 2014The Audubon Society recommends Carrol Henderson's "Woodworking for Wildlife," which has 30 different designs for nest boxes and nest platforms. There are some designs in this publication from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries: http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/habitat/wild-in-the-woods/make-a-bird-house.pdfHelpful Reply

Val on Jan 29, 2014Hi Linda, It depends on what kind of birds in your area you would like to attract. The most versatile birdhouse pattern I've ever used is the one for the Tree Swallow, because Bluebirds and Wrens also like it. I found it online by searching Tree Swallow Birdhouses. It's easy to make, and it only uses one five foot cedar fence board. If you need any tips, I'd be happy to help you out. ValHelpful Reply

Jeanne888 on Jan 30, 2014You didn't say whether you want them to be functioning birdhouses (for real birds) or decorative ones for display. Audubon, as mentioned above, and also http://www.birdsandblooms.com/ are great for making houses for birds (it's important to get the right size of both the house as well as the entrance hole for different species). Ideas for decorative ones abound on the Internet (such as on Pinterest and Google).Helpful Reply
