I don't understand why you can't put in large decorative items in an apartment. Maybe not couch size, but surely a large, light weight painting or two would not hurt. Use Command hooks. They don't mar walls when you take them down to move.

Too many small items just make a small area look cluttered and smaller.

Smaller scale rocking chair with gingham pads, afghan for colour, rustic wooden floating shelves (made from barn board) stencilled sign, distressed coffee table/end tables

check out the work of famous decorators like Sister Parrish, Kitty Barthlomew etc. Get some country decorating magazines (you can look for free at your library) what means country to you? Gingham checks, quilts, stoneware, pottery., log furniture? Think about what you really like and on your next trip to Goodwill or such; the items will jump out at you.

Hello Miflehsaleh; Please purchase or borrow a copy of Country Living magazine. Also, there is another one called Flea Market Style. Both will give you many ideas, on how you wish to decorate.

Flea Markets, Yard Sales, and Thrift Stores abound with all kinds of items that will look Lovely in a County setting.

Trust yourself, and buy what you like!!!

Antiques are a fun and a very unique way to bring the past into your home.

As long as you like what you are buying, that is the most important thing!!!

You are going to live with it, so make sure that you Love it.

Not everything has to match. You can easily mix and match things and your sense of style will come out.

I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!

Thank you for the ideas. You are right. Antiques are a good way to start. I found a 1932 RCA Victor tube radio and t does give the living room a rustic look.
