Changing Out Fluorescent Lights in Kitchen

The first two pictures are from my kitchen with the panels on, and the other where I slid the panel to the side to show the inside casing (drywall) and the fluorescent tubes, and the last picture of something someone had done on Pinterest. It is exactly what I would like. I keep knocking the panels off of the lights each time I mop my floor because the ceiling is SO LOW. So I would like to remove these lights so that I have 12" more of ceiling height, and add these lights in place of the long fluorescent tubes. Do I hire an electrician or a contractor? Or both?

I would go with an electrician first.

    i second the electrituon.

You don't know how old those wires are up there. Better to pay someone with experience than shock yourself silly or a friend helping you. Also the electrician also will tell you if he can do the extra or not. I know a guy that would do start to finish

make sure you call around and get quotes from several people and see what they all say and get references!!

If you never worked with electricity hire an electrician. Then you can decide what needs to be done to finish. You can hire a good handyman for the finish work. Cheaper than a contractor.

Definitely get someone to do this for you unless you have an electrician at home...
