Does anyone recognize this plant?

3po3 on Jun 01, 2011Doesn't look like any of Utah's listed noxious or invasive weeds, so I say let it grow. Weeds are somewhat in the eye of the beholder. At the same time, I have never intentionally planted anything that grows nearly as fast as weeds, so I would assume it were a weed if it were in my flowers.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 02, 2011Is it evergreen, Tomi Ann? Does it have a small yellow flower? The leaf looks like the ground cover Euonymus fortunei, which is known for its rapid growth rate. So much so that is considered an invasive in some areas.Helpful Reply

Tomi Ann H on Jun 02, 2011No, I have some of that in another area. A friend suggested it's Mexican Poppy, which I'm thinking is what I planted last year (I really should have written it down), but it doesn't quite match the pictures I've come up with on google.Helpful Reply

Myrna Engle on Sep 02, 2014I believe Evening Primrose is correct. The color of leaves and stems changes with soil and temperture. In NC Texas zone 7/8 the foliage is greener.Helpful Reply

Marinda Boydstun on Oct 11, 2014I have honeysuckle that I planted to shade my porch and balcony, and the stems look like that. The taking-over part fits, too. Mine has fragrant yellow-white blooms in the summer. I'm in the Midwest.Helpful Reply

Kristina S on Oct 14, 2014My guess is primrose. It has either pink or yellow flowers in the spring, that are about the size of a quarter. It's nearly impossible to eradicate--I've tried pulling them out, and using Roundup, without luck.Helpful Reply

Kim Smith on Oct 14, 2014I have had this plant. It was called Showy Evening primrose, or Mexican Evening Primrose. It has a really pretty pink flower on a cascading plant. I love the flower for its color and pretty look. But I ended up hating the plant. It is very aggressive in my Ohio garden. It wants to completely take over everything and become a mat like you see in your picture. I ended up naming it Devil Weed. You may think it is a pretty plant, and its foliage is pretty and delicate, but then it changes to a weird forked-looking plant...so Devil Weed. I dug for months, then into the next few years and finally got it all out. I am in Ohio zone 6. And I planted by seed. Pretty flower, ugly foliage, too aggressive.Helpful Reply
