most paints should stick but it also says on the paint can what it's for so you can get one that specifies works in metal or whatever the toy is made out of.

Get a paint that is safe for painting kids furniture - cribs -- try on-line or a paint store - not 'the Big Box' kind -

Do some light sanding first to dull the present finish then use some Krylon spray paint for plastic if your toy is made out of plastic if its made of metal i would recommend Rustoleum spray paint.
