For 11 years I played with the idea of painting my hallways black and covering them with mirrors. After years of collecting thrift store mirrors, I finally went for it! Only I did it to my dining room. It's spectacular in candlelight, these iPhone photos do not do it justice. My husband made me the steampunk mannequin for Christmas and she fit right in with all the metallic framed mirrors. End result: we LOVE it (except when we play card games at the table and can see each other's hands)!
I bought Behr marquee interior matte in flat which included primer. I'm not a taper, so I just stepped up on a chair with a medium size paintbrush and started painting the walls black. The first half hour I wanted to turn back, but kept painting!
I painted down to the chair rail and stopped. Then I piled the mirrors on the table. I knew I should probably map out a mirror plan, but I was too anxious. So I just dove in and started hanging the large mirrors first with a stud finder, screws and manual screwdriver. They seemed to just fall into place!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Would like instructions on making the steampunk mannequin! I have one that I've had for years--what did your husband put on the mannequin and where did he get the stand?
Love the finished look... BUT... Have you ever considered painting the wall ventilation cover the same as the wall color? That's what I have done for past projects for myself and for clients. Changing the light fixture above the table with a larger and darker (black!!), chandelier would look absolutely gorgeous! You did a great job!!
I love the drama of your room. I love fancy, scrolly, ornate gold mirrors.! Have you thought about painting the ceiling gold or a shimmery champagne Color?
beautiful, when can i come over for dinner and get pampered???LOL
