Before and After of a New Chest of Drawers
by

(IC: homeowner)
This is a transformation of a New Chest of Drawers. Commonly found in new, showroom floor furniture, it is made of some real wood as well as quite a bit of pressed board. It had a vinyl type fake wood finish that really needed some help!

MC on Jun 21, 2014Here is the chest that I want to redo. I am not sure about painting or staining. It's over 50 years old, belonged to my parents. I inherited it just after my mom passed away in May. I want to use this in my scrapbook room, my desk and side table are a dark walnut finish and I don't plan on doing anything to those, so I wanted to have this chest coordinate somehow without being so matchy. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

PATTY on Jun 21, 2014@Marilyn C As a fan of AS Chalk Paint I would choose a color that I wanted to ground the room with. In other words, use a color that you love and then add pops of the same color in the room to tie things together. The dark walnut finish on your other pieces will really go with any color your choose. The chalk paint is a one step process, no stripping or sanding is needed. If you choose to stain then you need to strip down to the bare wood to get any stain to adhere and go on uniformly. Your dresser is beautiful and will be a wonderful keepsake no matter which route you choose. :)

Mickey Baron on Sep 18, 2015Patty I love this. You have a way with color. I've never attempted chalk painting but I have a piece I am wondering about. I'll take a pic & post it to you for your suggestions, if you don't mind.

Mickey Baron on Sep 21, 2015In your 4th. up close pic; How did you get the lines inside the piece looking darker? I have a piece I'm wanting to do in 2 different colors like this. Any suggestions? And when do you apply the wax? What does the wax do? Thnx.
