    Mums come in many colors and are beautiful. You might also try some of the flowering cabbage. It is lower to the ground and brings another texture and visual element to your flower beds.

    I don't know where you are. I don't know what your climate is nor your soil type. Contact your local garden center/nursery. (not box store like Home Depot nor Lowes). Maybe first resort is your Co-operative Extension Service. Every state has it's own Co-operative Extension Service thru each State's University. They can also recommend a Master Gardener in your area who can give you lots more tips.
