I love to recycle and upcycle my families old clothes especially their wool sweaters and jeans. I make all sorts of crafts and useful stuff for the home.
I'm also super thrifty in that I keep the scraps from all these wonderful projects to use for further crafts. Like with my fabulous festive felt garlands that will soon be featured in a top craft magazine.
This time I made some gorgeous recycled sweater roses and combined them with denim seams to make a unique wreath for all seasons.
After gathering my wool and denim scraps I made the felt roses first.
These were made in exactly the same way as I made my hugely popular map roses (click here to see them). Using the same template I cut out 10 petals from the felt scraps.
The first petal I wrapped around a floristry wire stem and glued in place with fabric Mod Podge (see here).
I then applied glue to the next petal and stuck this to the outside of my first petal. I carried on doing this until all the petals were stuck down.
To tidy up the base of the roses and to add a leaf. I used a piece of green felt for this.
The green felt was folded into four and a leaf shape cut with a small nick in the center for the stem.
The stem was threaded through the hole
I carried on making recycled sweater felt roses from the scraps until I had seven in total.
To make the wreath I got a florists wireframe like this one. You should find one cheaply at your local craft store.
I simply wrapped denim seams cut from old jeans around the frame. Glueing them in place with a hot glue gun as I went along.
When the whole wire wreath frame is covered in denim seams then add the felt flowers.
I simply wound the wire flower stems around the denim wreath to attach them.
I'm really pleased how my wreath turned out. I love the contrast of the soft colorful flowers next to the rough denim.
Check the blog for more details and for a lot more denim and sweater projects.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Is there a reason you didn't use hot glue and does the Mod Podge stick pretty fast?
What fabric did you use to make the roses thanks
You keep mentioning cutting the "felt" for the petals, did you felt the sweater and then cut the petals?
