I'd opt for a steam cleaner that you own. That way, you can control how much solution you use-- including vinegar solutions-- aand it will save you money in the end. I like that I can clean whenever I need to. And the machine pays for itself-- most are $100 or less for the basic models and can be a couple of hundred for the fancier versions. .
I have had the best results with a home carpet shampoo machine and the BISSELL line of carpet products... a slightly lighter mix on the cleaner and vinegar if you need to do an extra rinse
